Cameron Highlands, Malaysia

Ahhh lovely rain. We tried to get away from the heat at sea level by escaping to higher ground in the middle of Malaysia and now we're wondering where our sweatshirts and pants are...hey Rochelle can you send them back over?! Well it is beautiful, the view from our place is the sunset pic and we have been on several jungle hikes and we've heard monkeys above us but they have very good camouflage and no desire to come down and play. It does make an eerie noise when they call all around us. We did find several more sci-fi bugs here, note the pic of the bionic fly and I swear the pictures never do them justice. We have been eating a lot of Indian curry and are already missing the Thai food. We hear Bali is still a lot of Indian influence too. We'll have to subsist on garlic naan which we have come to love and find very cheap. Here in the highlands we heard rumors of strawberries and veggies galore which we have searched (through the rain by foot) to find and have only found strawberry umbrellas, nightgowns, slippers, keychains, blow-up balls, pillows, hats and many more non-edible forms.
We spent last night drinking beers with people we picked up on some trails, a Dutch couple traveling for 1 year and an Aussie who has been traveling for 12 years. So here is my rant. I hate these damn foreigners who have no school debt, on holiday forever, have no recent history of any lucrative jobs, who speak 15 languages, know more about our politics than we do and all have something to say about us (being the US) not signing the Kyoto agreement which I have never heard of (the agreement or the city). We are apparently arrogant, worldly blinded, monolingual, broke and overworked...anyone want to move?
AANNNYYYWWAAYYSSSS...Tomorrow we leave to our final major destination both Bali and neighboring Gili islands...more sun and diving...very excite!!

Hi Krista & Lauren,

What fun and adventure!!!! Yes Americans are far less world-consious than people from other countries. I think one of the reasons is that we are so far away and isolated from much of the world.

In case you didn't find out. The Kyoto Protocol is an international agreement (under U.N. auspice) to reduce greenhouses gases (carbon dioxide, etc.) in an effort to reduce the impact of climate change (rising temperatures). 182 countries around the world have ratified it -- but not the U.S. The U.S. is the only developed country who has not ratified it. -- A couple of reasons offered by U.S.: It increases costs to U.S./U.S.businesses; its too easy on some developing countries (such as China, India) which are growing rapidly and rapidly increasing their GH gases.

Well that's enough of a history lesson.

Well you will be down in warmer territory by the time you read this. - You might miss the cool weather again sometimes. Have fun.

hey guys, i miss you! I would send your warm clothes and raingear but I'm needing them here. Yes . . . the rain has began. Have fun on the islands, can't wait to hear all about it. I'm already on my first week vacation after just one week of orientation. Yes, my license is still pending so unfortunately it is unpaid. . .

Krista,
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!! Tomorrow Oct. 6or is that today already for you.

We bought a car and diamonds etc for your birthday. -- If you don't come to your party, we'll assume that you want someone even poorer than you to have them.

Have a fun happy B-day. We'll be thinking of you.
Love,
Mom and Dad

Thanks for the b-day blog and emails! So, Linsey...trying to move in on my birthday goodies...I see how you are. That's alright, I have a vague recollection of being at a birthday party when I was like 6 or 7 and unwrapping one of the birthday girl's presents of hair bows and making her cry. What goes around comes around...hehehe.
